Submit your application by April 1 to qualify for the current tax year. Pursuant to HB 92 (2025), applications may be submitted after April 1 for the current tax year. You may submit your application for the current tax year prior to the appeal deadline listed on your Notice of Assessment . Failure to file by April 1 - or your appeal date listed on your Notice of Assessment - shall constitute a waiver of the exemption for the applicable tax year. Applications must be received or USPS postmarked by April 1 - or your appeal date listed on your Notice of Assessment - to be accepted for that year. The homestead exemption is automatically renewed each year as long as you continue to occupy the home and the home remains under the same ownership. The only time you must reapply for an exemption is if there is a change in ownership, residence, or you wish to qualify for a higher exemption. Please Note: If you have previously started a filing but have not yet submitted, choose the “My Filings” menu option and select the filing with a status of “Draft Filing Created, But Not Yet Submitted.” to complete your filing. You do not need to start a new filing. If you have a filing with a status of “Draft Filing Created, But Not Yet Submitted.” and a modified date older than 30 days, the filing will be removed.***You are required by law to notify the Cobb County Tax Commissioner’s Office if you become ineligible for any homestead exemption applied and subject to penalties for failing to do so per O.C.G.A. 48-5-51.1. Request a homestead removal here.***
